Don Walser is a beloved legend in the Texas Country music scene (Willie Nelson is one of his biggest fans), and also has a large following that goes beyond the traditional country audience.

His music has been featured in such films as The Horse Whisperer, Secondhand Lions, and Hi-lo Country, in which he also performed on screen.

Don Walser And The Pure Texas Band have won many awards, including, The Austin Music Awards, Best Performing Band, 1996; The Annual Austin Music Awards Country Band of the Year, 1996; The Association for Independent Music, Indie Award for Texas Top Hand, 1997; and The National Endowment For The Arts, National Heritage Award, 2000. He has performed on several albums with Asleep At The Wheel, including one of their best-sellers, A Ride With Bob (a tribute to Bob Wills)

The pure Texas sound of Don Walser was influenced by the Western Swing of Bob Wills, the honky-tonk sound of Ernest Tubb, the cowboy crooning of Eddy Arnold, the storytelling folk of Jimmie Rodgers, the soaring yodel of Slim Whitman, as well as the traditional country sound of fellow Texan Hank Thompson.
