This title is now sold out. Limited Collector’s Edition of 3000 copies This Elmer Bernstein gem from 1966 hasn’t been reissued in any form for over 35 years! The rarity of the score has led to it largely having been lost in the shadows of such famous scores from the period as The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape and To Kill A Mockingbird. In spite of this, Cast A Giant Shadow is, without question, one of the composer’s absolute classics. The stellar cast included Kirk Douglas, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, and Yul Brenner! Though not one of his longest scores, Cast A Giant Shadow is certainly one of Bernstein’s most epic, featuring one of his most beautiful love themes and some of his most thrilling action music. While there were a few cues in the film that were not included on the original LP, the tapes, sadly, have not survived, so this CD is limited to the originally selected sequence from 1966. But it’s not always about “bonus cuts.” What is included here is one of the finest scores by one of film music’s greatest masters. For those not familiar with this one, a great treat is in store! 1.
