Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) was among the final handful of scores composed by the legendary French composer before his untimely passing in March of 1992. A shocking ten years has passed since that tragic loss. It is with respect and fond memories that Masters Film Music pays tribute to this great composer and dear friend. Joe Versus the Volcano was the first on-screen pairing of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. It was a storybook fantasy, complete with a love story and a great adventure. Delerue’s score absolutely soars. It presents the composer in an astounding diversity of styles, all of which are displayed with seemingly effortless spontaneity. The music is youthful, fresh, heartbreaking, exhilarating and so much more. Delerue was a rare and unique talent, the likes of which we no longer have.
